Renovation

So we bought a house in Kentucky in October that needed a lot of work.  We worked on it through February, at which time an **unexpected turn of events** occured and sent us moving again, this time to Alabama.  It was a rough five months, and in the end we didn't even get to enjoy the fruit of our labors.  We moved before it was finished and hired the rest out.  Thankfully it is all behind us now.  It was a great learning experience!  We learned we will never buy a house that needs renovating again.

Here are some of the before pictures of the house, when the previous owners lived there still.

 It is difficult to capture the full effect of how hideously ugly this house was. 

This is the kitchen.  The four layers of wallpaper were removed.  The panelling underneath was filled in with spackling, then sanded, primed, and painted.  Trim, windows, and doors were painted. 
I painted all the cabinets white inside and out, and changed out all the hardware to nickle.  New stove, microwave, dishwasher, fridge (all stainless steel), sink, backsplash, countertops, and a new tile floor were all installed by Isaac, with the help of his brother Alex.

 One view of the living room.  Again the multiple layers of wallpaper were removed, and the walls painted. 
That red wall on the left was completely removed to open up the livingroom into the den with the fireplace.  And the wood floor was patched where the wall was removed.

We put an efficent wood burning stove in the fireplace (not the stove pictured), and painted these walls.



*We painted all the walls in the house Natural Choice from sherwin williams. The doors and trim were all white (don't remember the name.)

 Here is the awesome Master bedroom.  This room was eventually wallpapered over since the wallpaper in here wouldn't come off.  We wallpapered it with paintable wallpaper and painted it Natural Choice.  That was one job we hired out and haven't actually seen the final product, but I hear it looks really good.
I don't have a picture of the amazing master bathroom.  Imagine sliding glass doors that are stinky/moldy and mulitple layers of peeling, moldy paint over tile throughout the shower.  Oh, and that rusty, leaky shower head.  Yeah.  All fixed up pretty now.

 If we could get a close up of that shell-shaped sink, it would show, yet again, peeling, moldy paint.  Everything is painted in the bathroom.  If it gets water on it, it is also peeling and moldy.  Got it?  Good.
Isaac cut out that shell sink and installed a real bathroom sink.

Here's the front.  Not too bad.  Isaac built a barn to the left for our animals.  We did not get around to landscaping (thank goodness).









ALL the walls in the house were painted (bedrooms, hall, laundry room).
